MAVRA
PASTA LA VISTA

SCENES FROM STRAVINSKY'S "MAVRA"

If you haven't had enough tonight, you certainly won't find satisfaction here. A five-course meal was planned—now there's just the scent of an appetizer. Tempting and unsatisfying. But we stand by our emptiness—the void is within us. Stravinsky's comic opera Mavra is also about a void: the mother laments the death of her cook until the daughter passes off her lover as the new cook. What remains is the empty hunger of the overindulged. Yet we still hope for a miracle. For a Mirácoli!
